ITS TIME TO HIT THE SACK .. Zzzzzz (PART ONE)
How do we we know that it is time to go to bed?
Because it’s almost 10 pm?
Because mom says so?
Often times we go to bed when we are sleepy. The sleepiness that we feel are contributed by 2 main factors.
- Circadian Rhythm i.e our body’s internal clock (Process -C). This pacemaker constructs a cyclical, day-night pattern that makes us feel tired or alert at regular times.
- Adesonine build up, that causing ‘sleep pressure’ (Process-S). Adenosine is produced naturally in the body as a byproduct of cellular energy metabolism, and as it accumulates in the brain during waking hours, it binds to adenosine receptors in the brain, promoting sleepiness and reducing wakefulness..
